Trump Considers Tariffs to Counter Digital Taxes on US Tech Giants, Strains EU Ties - WorldEye


President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum formally considering using tariffs to counter digital services taxes imposed on US tech giants. The memo calls for the US Trade Representative to propose retaliatory measures, including tariffs, on countries that impose digital taxes on US tech companies. The White House aims to dissuade foreign governments from collecting tax revenue from US tech companies operating abroad. The Trump administration will also review whether practices in the European Union or UK incentivize US companies to develop products that undermine free speech. The move could potentially roil already tense relations with France and other European countries.
